Obituary

Paul Malak, age 71, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA and a resident of the Carbondale Nursing and Rehab Center, Carbondale, died Wednesday afternoon, October 22, 2014, at the VNA Hospice, Scranton, PA after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born September 29, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA, he is the son of Pearl (Szczesny) Mackowski of Freeport, PA and the late John C. Malak. Paul was a graduate of Harbrack High School, Natrona Heights, PA, and earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He sold machinery to pharmaceutical companies and worked for Glatt Company, Raymond Automation, Inc., Horix Company and was also self employed as the owner and operator of Malco, Inc. He had the privilege with his job to travel all 50 states and many countries. He was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also was an artist in his earlier years and was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Blakeslee, PA and was a troop leader for the Boy Scouts in Westfield, NJ while his children where growing up. He is survived by one son: Mark T. Malak and wife Jennifer of Greenfield Township, PA; two daughters: K. Brett Malak of Westfield, NJ and Sandra Malak of Jersey City, NJ; three grandchildren: Casimir Malak of Westfield, NJ and John Paul and Alexandra L. Malak both of Greenfield Twp., PA; three brothers: Thomas Malak of Miami, FL, John Malak of Pittsburgh, PA and Joseph Malak of Freeport, PA; several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Monday, October 27, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Mark, Brett, Sandra, Casmir, Joseph and John Malak, John Borosky and Michael Hrycko. Military honors were performed by the US Marine Corps and the Simpson VFW Post 4712 Honor Guard.
