Patrick K. Vadella, 64, of Harrisburg, PA., died Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA. His wife is the former Cathy Smith. They were married in Leesburg, VA. on August, 12, 1988.
Born August 3, 1948 in Carbondale, PA., he is the son of Patrick E. Vadella of Carbondale and the late Arlene A. (Swegel) Vadella.
Patrick served in the US Marine Corps during Vietnam and was a recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation, an award for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy. He also volunteered in Desert Storm as a civilian. Pat was retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot and moved to Harrisburg after his retirement.
Pat loved his family, his music, working in his garden, making spaghetti sauce, riding his motorcycle, the outdoors and his dog Buddy. He was an avid Yankee fan who attended many games. Pat and Cathy loved traveling together. He will be missed by all of his family and those who were lucky to have known him.
Pat's family would like to thank all caregivers and support groups from the Hershey Medical Center who helped in his care. A special thanks to Jerome Maida, his Marine brother who brought him home from his valiant fight with his illness.
He is survived by one son: Jeremy Vadella of Waymart, PA.; twelve siblings: Darlene Bouch and husband James of Hummelstown, PA., Eugene Vadella and wife Clara of Carbondale, PA., Judith Voss and husband Kelvin Goon of Vienna, VA., Ann Marie Peters and husband Alan of Carbondale, PA., Mary Lou Tomsky and husband Stephen of Greenfield Township, PA., Robert J. Vadella and wife Jean of State College, PA., Carolyn Mrakovich of Carbondale, PA., Thomas Vadella and wife Rose Marie of Carbondale, PA., Joseph Vadella and wife Ann of Carbondale, PA., Michael Vadella and wife Lore of Browndale, PA., Linda Iliff and husband James of Carbondale, PA. and James Vadella and wife Avery of Satellite Beach, FL.; one sister-in-law: Mary Carol Teeple and husband Jack of Archbald, PA.; two brothers-in-law: Bobby Smith of Simpson, PA. and Paul Smith of Carbondale, PA.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son: Patrick K. Vadella, Jr.
The funeral was held Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 8:45 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale., celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, associate pastor. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Jason Teeple, Jackie Teeple, III., Douglas Williams, James Bouch, Jr., Danny Mrakovich, Nicholas Mrakovich, Patrick Vadella, Michael Vass and Jamie Hunter - all nephews.
Friends called Monday, February 25, 2013 from 4-8 PM.
