Obituary

Patrick T. Liuzzo, Sr., age 81, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday evening, January 27, 2009 at the Asera Care Hospice at Mid Valley Hospital, Peckville, PA., after an illness. His wife was the late Gloria Jean Brown who died December 12, 1987. Born April 17, 1927 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Joseph and Carmella (DePoti) Liuzzo. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. He was a supervisor at Farview State Hospital, Waymart and retired after 32 years of service. He was an Army veteran serving in World War II where he earned the World War II Victory Medal. He was the second last surviving original lifetime member of the Moxie Club, Carbondale and was also a member of the VFW Post 4712 Simpson, PA., DAV and American Legion Post 610, Mayfield, PA. He was an avid gardener, a big Yankees and sports fan and loved spending time with his Saturday family and friends. He was also very proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed the fine foods associated with it. He is survived by three daughters: Nancy Liuzzo Sullenberger and husband Ken of Chapman Lake, PA., Gloria Jean Marie Liuzzo of Blakely, PA. and Susan Wiggins and husband Robert of Waymart, PA.; two sons: Patrick T. Liuzzo, Jr. and wife Sharon of Greenfield Township, PA. and Joseph R. Liuzzo of Carbondale, PA.; one step son: Ronald C. Eldred of Tampa, FL.; one sister: Dora Falbo of Carbondale, PA.; two brothers: Anthony Liuzzo and Thomas Liuzzo both of Carbondale, PA.; seven grandsons: Brandon, Joseph Richard (J.R.), Shawn, Keith, Christopher, Nicholas and Brian; four granddaughters: Charlene, Ashley, Janette and Jamie Lynn; two great grandchildren: Christopher and Matthew Bedford; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph, John and Richard Liuzzo.The funeral was held Saturday, January 31, 2009, at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA., celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Friday, January 30, 2009 from 4-8 pm.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent in Patrick's name to the Maxis Foundation at Marian Community Hospital, 100 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, Pa, 18407. Pallbearers: Brian Wiggins, Keith Sullenberger, Shawn Sullenberger, Christopher Liuzzo, Nicholas Lepre and Kevin Liuzzo.
