Patrick E. Vadella, 94, of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Carbondale Nursing Center, Carbondale. He was the husband of the former Arlene A. Swegel who died on February 23, 2010. At the time of her death, they celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Born January 11, 1920 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Eugene and Angelina Perry Vadella. After their marriage, Pat and Arlene moved to New Jersey where they supported the country's efforts in World War II by working in the defense industry. Upon returning to Carbondale, Pat became a prominent Carbondale businessman having owned and operated several companies during his career, including P & A Dress Manufacturing for 35 years. He was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Carbondale where he served as an usher.
His greatest legacy is the large family of 13 children he and his wife raised and now spans four generations. In his early years, Pat's passion was collecting and restoring classic cars. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially poker with his friends, going to the track to bet on the horses, riding around in his convertible and watching the New York Yankees.
He is survived by 11 children: Eugene Vadella and wife Clara of Carbondale, PA, Judith Voss and husband Kelvin Goon of Vienna, VA, Ann Marie Peters and husband Alan of Carbondale, PA, Mary Lou Tomsky and husband Stephen of Greenfield Township, PA, Robert Vadella and wife Jean of State College, PA, Carolyn Mrakovich of Carbondale, PA, Thomas Vadella and wife Rose Marie of Carbondale, PA, Joseph Vadella and wife Ann of Carbondale, PA, Michael Vadella and wife Lore of Browndale, PA, Linda Iliff and husband James of Carbondale, PA and James Vadella and wife Avery of Satellite Beach, FL; a son-in-law: James Bouch of Hummelstown, PA; a daughter-in-law: Cathy Vadella of Harrisburg, PA; 32 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Darlene Bouch; a son: Patrick K. Vadella; four grandchildren: Patrick Vadella, Jr., Stephen Tomsky, Dina Lynn Vadella and Eugene Victor Vadella; a great grandson: Michael Patrick Voss; three sisters: Rose Cardamone, Phyllis Caines and Mary Ann Vadella. The funeral was held Monday, December 15, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Nicholas Vadella, Anthony Vadella, Patrick Vadella, Jeremy Vadella, Lonnie Hunter, Jamie Hunter, Douglas Williams, Nicholas Mrakovich and Thomas Mihalick.
