Obituary

Palma Tolerico, 88, of Carbondale, PA, died Tuesday morning, March 29, 2016 at the Forest City Nursing Home, Forest City, PA. She was the wife of Carmine "Carney" Tolerico, who died in September, 1991. Born December 10, 1927 in Carbondale, she was daughter of the late Guy and Angelina Sirianni DeFazio. Palma was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. She spent many Saturday nights playing cards with her circle of friends, was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and baking many Italian specialties, especially homemade bread. She is survived by three children: Ann Lyon and husband Lex, La Jolla, CA, Carmine "Carney" Tolerico and wife Susan, Carbondale, PA and Mary "Mae" Bennett and husband Randy, Owego, NY; one sister: Rose Connor, Clifford, PA; four grandchildren: Rebecca Garruto, Carbondale, PA, Carrie Tolerico, Syracuse, NY, Jennifer Bennett, Forest Lake, PA, and Ashley Bennett, Lexington, KY; two great granddaughters: Isabella Garruto and Sophia Bennett; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary Bonacci, Teresa Bonacci, Philomena Turano and Ann Gallo: one brother: Anthony DeFazio. The family would like to thank Jill Giglia and the staff at the Forest City Nursing Center for the care they provided Palma in her later years. The funeral was held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Andrew Kurovsky, associate pastor and Deacon Edward Casey. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Augustine Gallo, Jr., Serafine Bilotta, William McGregor, Anthony "Butch" Tolerico, Richard Tolerico, Carl Tolerico and Anthony Tolerico. Friends called Friday, April 1, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. Visitation at Funeral Home 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Friday, April 1, 2016 Carmine J. & Louis C.
