Orlando C. Orlie Costa, age 73, of Childs, PA. died late Sunday evening, March 6, 2005 at the VNA Hospice and Palliative Care Center at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. after an illness.
Born January 4, 1932 in Childs, PA. He was the son of the late Cosimo and Frances (Figliomeni) Costa.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Carbondale, PA. He was a graduate of St. Rose High School and also attended the University of Scranton. He was a Air Force veteran.
He worked on the DH Railroad, the Tobyhanna Army Depot, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The family also owned Costas Grocery Store on Main Street in Childs for over 50 years. He recently was involved with an antique business also in Childs.
He was formerly the Secretary and Treasurer of Carbondale Township. He was also a member of the Meredith Fire Hose Company in Childs.
Orlie was a kind and gentle man who always lent a helping hand to those in need. He was a loving uncle, great uncle, brother and friend that will be dearly missed.

He is survived by two sisters: Mabel Catanzaro of Childs, PA. and Joan Warhola of Richmondale, PA.; three brothers: Peter Costa of Bloomington, NY., James Costa of Childs, PA. and Michael Costa of Mayfield, PA.; 9 Nephews; 3 Nieces; 5 Great Nephews; 5 Great Nieces
He was preceded in death by an infant brother: Joseph Costa
The funeral was held Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 9:00 am from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Charles P. Connor, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township.
A Private viewing for family members only was held Wednesday, March 9, 2005 from 7-9 pm. Pallbearers: Mario Costa, Craig Costa, John Costa, Robert Warhola, Larry Catanzaro, Joseph Good and Dave Pettinato.
