Obituary

Norbert R. Valentine, 84, of Union Dale, PA., died Monday night, December 7, 2009 at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, PA. He was the husband of the former Anna E. Farr. They were married 54 years. Born October 12, 1925 in Eynon, PA., he was the son of the late Frank and Nellie Puza Valentine.After serving in the army during the Korean War he came home and worked on the family farm before re-enlisting in the air force. While stationed in Germany he married his wife. Upon leaving air force he settled his family back in Union Dale and operated his own farm for some time. He was later employed and retired as an electrician for the IBEW Local 81 in Scranton, PA.He was a member of St. Pius X Parish in Royal, PA., which is now St. John Vianney Parish of Royal and Montdale, PA. He also was a member of the Cerra-Leo DAV in Carbondale, PA.He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was known to be a hard worker. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the VA Medical Center for the kind and compassionate care shown to Norbert. He is survived by four daughters: Marlies Gregory of Lenox , PA., Marianne Lukus of Clarks Summit, PA., Karen Valentine of Pheonix, AZ. and Linda Andzulis of Lenox , PA.; six grandchildren: Jennifer Miller, Tommy Andzulis, Joey and Michael Lukus, Brandi Valentine and Ashley Gregory; 4 great grandchildren; one brother: Frank Valentine of Union Dale, PA.; three sisters: Genevieve Krisak of Rahway, NJ., Isabell Ball of Titusville, FL. and Victoria Park of Clark, NJ.; Nieces and Nephews.He was preceded in death by two brothers: John and baby Edward Valentine.The funeral was held Friday, December 11, 2009 at 9:30 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, PA., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X Church, Royal, celebrated by the Rev. James B. Shimsky, pastor of St. John Vianney Parish. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Military honors were conducted by the VFW Honor Guard, Post 4712, Simpson, PA. Pallbearers: Joseph and Michael Lukus, Rob McLosky, Richard Durling, Joseph Valentine and John Kochmer. Friends called Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 2-4 7-9 PM.
