Nicholas Whengreen, age 84, of Lenox, PA., died Thursday morning, August 23, 2012 at the Forest City Nursing Home, Forest City, PA. His wife was the late Margaret Decker who died March 17, 2000.
Born December 10, 1927 in Tompkinsville, PA., he was the son of the late Michael and Cecelia (Bilas) Whengreen.
In his early years, he worked the family dairy farm in Lenoxville, PA. After selling the farm, he worked for many years as a greensman for Elkview Country Club, Crystal Lake, PA. and Panorama Golf Course, Forest City, PA. He was a member of the South Gibson United Methodist Church, South Gibson, PA. and enjoyed gardening, playing the harmonica, singing and polkas. He enjoyed visiting people, telling jokes, but most of all was a very kind and giving person. The loves of his life where his grandchildren Jey and Camdyn and they are going to miss their grampa very much.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the Forest City Nursing Home for their wonderful care to Nicholas.
He is survived by one daughter: Diane Rusek and husband Jerry of Lenox , PA.; two grandchildren: Jey and Camdyn Rusek, both of Lenox, PA.; two sisters: Celia Whengreen and Helen Christ both of Greenfield Township, PA.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter: Madison Suzanne Hope Rusek; four brothers: Joseph Prestys, Michael Prestys, John Whengreen and Walter Whengreen; one sister: Ann Barrett.
The funeral was held Monday, August 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the South Gibson United Methodist Church, South Gibson, PA., celebrated by Rev. Daniel Lincoln, pastor. Interment, Clifford Valley Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
Friends called Sunday, August 26, 2012 from 5-8 PM at the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were sent to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, PO Box 78960, Phoenix, Arizona 85062-8960 or American Diabetes Association.
