Nicholas T. Cianflone, age 89, of Simpson, PA., died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Lackawanna Health and Rehab Center, Sturges, PA., following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. His wife of 54 years was the former Margaret M. Obzud, who died February 8, 2000.
Born in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Pasquale and Frances (Critelli) Cianflone.
Nick was a decorated World War II veteran who served in five campaigns in the European Theatre. He worked as an automobile mechanic and Cadillac technician for Hornbeck Chevrolet, Carbondale for 20 years. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a Psychiatric Security Aide for Farview State Hospital, Waymart.
Some of Nick's happiest years were spent with his wife at their cottage at Spruce Lake. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his son Patrick and his wife Shirley of Lenoxville, PA., his granddaughter Heather and great granddaughter Hailey Margaret, both of Clifford, PA.
The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Frank Milani who was Nick's physician for 30 years and the Lackawanna Health and Rehab Center of Mid Valley for their wonderful care of him in the time that he spent there.
As per Nick's request, private arrangements were entrusted to the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
