Obituary

Anne "Nancy" Maida, 75, of Carbondale, PA, died Thursday, March 3, 2022 at home surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. Her husband of 52 years is Jerome M. "Jerry" Maida. They were married May 3, 1969. Born February 26, 1947 in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph, Sr. and Nan Hughes Monahan. Nancy was a 1965 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and attended Lackawanna Junior College. She worked as a secretary for 20 years prior to her retirement in 2009 from the Scranton State School for the Deaf. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, and sang in the choir. She was extremely patriotic and loved hosting many 4th of July parties. Elvis was her favorite singer and his music could often be heard throughout the house along with Nancy playing her piano. She was Irish to the core and would decorate for St. Patrick's Day as if it were Christmas! Her greatest joys were raising her three boys and later in life spending time with her grandchildren. Nancy's family would like to extend a special thank you to all the family, friends, and neighbors that supported her throughout her journey. Additional thanks to the staff and physicians at Geisinger CMC Henry Cancer Center, Interim Home Health, Allied Hospice, and all other healthcare providers involved in her care. She is survived by her three sons: Jerome Maida, Jr. and fiancée, Deanna Bednash of Los Angeles, CA, Matthew Maida, Sr. and wife, Dana of Archbald, PA, and Michael Maida of Carbondale, PA; two grandsons: MJ and Austin Maida, both of Archbald, PA; one brother: Joseph Monahan, Jr. of Carbondale, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
