Mildred L. Gilroy, 88, of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William J. Broderick in 1983 and her second husband, Paul B. Gilroy in 2000.
Born in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Bernetta Murphy Beck. Mildred was a 1944 graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale and a graduate of Lackawanna Junior College, Scranton where she took executive secretarial courses. She worked as a secretary for the US Government in Washington, D.C., Merrit, Chapman and Scott Construction Company in New York City, Associate Financial Services in Baltimore, MD and NBT Bank in Carbondale, prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, the Red Hat Society and enjoyed quilting. She was a caretaker to many family members and friends throughout her life.
She is survived by a sister: Jean McDonough of Mine Hill, NJ; nieces and nephews: Sharon Hoffman of Greenland, NH, Ann Marie McGowan of Berkeley Heights, NJ, John McDonough of Mine Hill, NJ; a step son: Michael Gilroy of Carbondale, PA.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: William H. Beck and John Beck; a nephew: William J.J. Beck.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Mayfield, PA.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
