Michaelina Jean Vaughan-Chivers, 70, of Greenfield Township, PA, died Friday, January 29, 2016 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her husband of 35 years is Larry Chivers. They were married April 4, 1980.
Born April 21, 1945 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late John Francis and Michaelina Jean Albert Vaughan.
Michaelina was a graduate of New Milford High School, New Milford, NJ and has had numerous jobs throughout her life including a truck driver for a brief time and a safety director for Brinks, Inc., Richmond, VA . She is most known as a real estate agent for 30 years where she recently worked for Remax.
She was of the Catholic faith, enjoyed traveling in a tractor trailer along with her husband Larry and enjoyed playing card games. She was a lifetime animal lover, raised and competed show dogs and was a member of the American Kennel Club.
She is survived by one son: Leonard Andrew Vaughan and wife Kristal Virkitis-Vaughan of Waymart, PA; one sister: Jayne Vaughan-Rollings and husband Craig Rollings of Peckville, PA; one granddaughter: Josie Lauren Chivers of Columbia, PA; several nieces and nephews including Katy and Krysten; two brother's-in-law: Ronald Chivers and wife Barbara and Richard Chivers and wife Lonnie, all of York, PA; one sister-in-law: Geraldine Woltman and husband Lee of Virginia.
She was preceded in death by one step son: Larry Chivers, III.
The funeral was held Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 411 Church Street, Archbald, PA, celebrated by Rev. Christopher Sahd, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Andrew Vaughan, Tim Jansen, Craig Rollings, Ron Chivers, Lynn Chivers and Leo Newsom. Friends called Monday, February 1, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were sent to Animal Care Associates, 1916 Rosanna Avenue, Scranton, Pa 18509.
