Obituary

Michaelene J. Day, 61, of Dickson City, PA., died Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Asera Care Hospice, Mid Valley Hospital, Peckville, PA., after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 20, 1947 in Scranton, PA., she was the daughter of the late Clement and Sophie (Gotlewski) Filipski.She was a 1965 graduate of Dickson City High School and a member of St. Mary's Visitation Church in Dickson City, PA. She was proprietor of Zoe's Bridal Shop in Olyphant, PA., worked in the JC Penney's Catalog Department and as a clerk at the Lackawanna County Courthouse. She was also an administrative assistant at the Association for Retarded Citizens and was a certified insurance broker for Unitrin Direct, Moosic, PA. She was an active supporter of the Autistic Foundation, a member of the Democratic Women's Association and the DAV Women's Auxiliary in Dickson City, PA. Mike was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who loved life and always having a good time. She was always there to lend a helping hand and support when needed. All who had the pleasure of knowing her were blessed in so many ways that will never be forgotten. She had a tremendous love for animals, especially her shepherd Spirit, who was always at her side with such strong devotion. During this difficult time, her battle with cancer, she was able to realize how many people truly loved her.She is survived by one daughter: Joy Davitt and one grandson: Tyler Cortazar, both of Dickson City, PA.; a very special companion: Dominick Lorenzetti of Peckville, PA.; aunt: Pearl Notartomasso of Colorado; several other aunts, uncles and cousinsThe funeral was held Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 10:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City, PA., celebrated by Monsignor Patrick Pratico, pastor. Interment, parish cemetery, Dickson City, PA. Friends called Monday, June 22, 2009 from 5-9 PM.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to her grandson Tyler Cortazar, 949 Carmalt Street, Dickson City, PA. 18519. Pallbearers: Nick Lorenzetti, Dom Lorenzetti, Steven Day, Bubby Day, J.D. Pabis, Jonathan Pabis, Paul Van Auken and Jim Doyle.
