Michael W. Petrilak passed away at home Wednesday August 1, 2012. His wife and soulmate of 26 years is Mary Swiderski Petrilak.
Born in Carbondale, PA., Michael spent his entire life in Greenfield Township enjoying the benefits of close ties to his extended families. His mother was Corine Gardner Petrilak who passed away April 2010 and his father was Walter Petrilak who passed away February 2004. Michael was educated in Greenfield Township schools and was self employed most of his adult life. His crowning occupational achievement was the design, construction and management of Sleepy Hollow Golf Course and Sleepy Hollow Turf Equipment. The beauty of his success was the enjoyment and pleasure he took in working those businesses. He never felt it was a job. He often touted that anyone who could put on a pair of shorts and shirt and drive to work on a golf cart everyday really couldn't be considered working. It was natural for Mike to work outdoors as he loved outdoor sports and recreation. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who preferred the time spent on the mountain behind his home to the annual big game hunts he took to Colorado and Wyoming. He shared his love for the outdoors with all his children: Michael Jr., Brian, Nicholas and Jonathan; also his daughters Sandra and Jessica.
Mike enjoyed the love of five grandchildren Kristen Walter, Matthew and Courtney Petrilak, Ashton Petrilak and Kevin Caleb (KC) Gaffney. He was fortunate to enjoy the love of two great-grandchildren, Ayla and Kira Walter. His passions in life also included the interests of his children and their accomplishments in academia, business, sports and dirt track racing. He will be missed dearly at home, on the job, at the golf course and at the race track. Mike will be missed any place he ever ventured.
