Michael J. Barrett, 63, of Carbondale, PA, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at home. Born September 14, 1958 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Barrett, Jr. and Geraldine Douches Barrett. Michael was a graduate of Fairless Hills High School in Bucks County, and Trenton State College. He had been employed as a teacher in the Carbondale, Lakeland and Sacred Heart Schools. A devout catholic, Michael was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, and its prayer group and choir. He also served St. Rose as an eucharistic minister and Sunday school teacher. Michael loved family get togethers, especially family reunions. He never forgot anyone's birthday or anniversary, always sending a greeting card. He especially enjoyed helping the elderly. Sincere thanks is extended to all of Michael's friends for their help and kindness during his health struggles. He is survived by two aunts: Marie Barrett and Genevieve Kelly; one uncle: Michael Douches; and several cousins including Doreen Barrett, who was Michael's primary caregiver. He was also preceded in death by an uncle: John Douches. The funeral was held Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnak, pastor and Rev. Kevin Miller, pastor of St. Brigid Parish, Friendsville, PA. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Jeffrey Gorman, Jeremy Gorman, Joseph Martines, Brian Martines, Robert Drake and Lynn Propeack.
