Melvin D. Barney, age 75, of Lenoxville, PA., died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, July 26, 2009 at home.Born March 22, 1934 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Dayton and Beulah (Ruland) Barney.He worked as a handyman for Rock Creek Golf Course and Glenwood Stone Company, both in Nicholson, PA. He was also a part time farmer and raised beef cattle.
He enjoyed gardening, socializing with his neighbors and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was especially proud of his grandsons academic achievements. Melvin loved to putter around the house and loved to lend a helping hand to others. He is survived by one daughter: Susan Pfahl and husband Richard of Nicholson, PA.; five grandchildren: Matthew, Joshua, Bradley, Robert and Cheyenne; two sisters: Carol McQuerry and husband Willard of Georgia and Dawn Gilmore and husband Henry of Las Vegas, NV.; four brothers: Marshall Barney and wife Alice of Daytona Beach, FL., Donald Parmalee and wife Debbie of New York, Lew Parmalee and wife Mari of New York and Jim Parmalee and wife Mary of Colorado; former wife: Dorothy Schuster Barney of Carbondale, PA.; several nieces and nephewsHe was preceded in death by a special uncle: Clifton Barney; one niece: Paulette McQuerry; several aunts, uncles and cousins.The funeral was held Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 10:00 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Dundaff Main Streets, Clifford, PA., with the Rev. John McCarty, pastor of the Clifford Baptist Church, officiating. Interment, Clifford Valley Cemetery, Clifford, PA.Friends called Friday, July 31, 2009 from 6-8 PM and Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the family.
