Mary A. Vergari, 86, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died unexpectedly on Monday evening, January 18, 2021 at home. Born March 9, 1934 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Stella Goditis Bossick. Mary was a seamstress and worked at Cassaro's Dress Factory, Carbondale, and other local dress factories in the area. She was also a waitress at Bilotta's Restaurant, Carbondale. She was a devout member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, and enjoyed reading, old western movies and her visits with her sister-in-law, Mary every day. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her greatest joy in life was cooking and baking for her family, especially Sundays with her homemade spaghetti sauce. She is survived by three children: Paul Vergari and wife, Karen of Union Dale, PA; Catherine Loughney and Gina Natichak, both of Carbondale, PA; three step daughters: Hope Bilko and husband Joe of Richmondale, PA, Tessa and Jessica Vergari, both of Carbondale, PA; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; son-in-law: Robert Johnson of Carbondale, PA; sister-in-law: Mary Shoener of Carbondale, PA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Christine Johnson; grandson: George Timko; granddaughter: Heather Lynn Vergari: son-in-law: James Loughney; three brothers: George, Joe and Frank Bossick; three sisters: Helen Rydzik, Julie Luchansky and Darlene Pittsman and her former husband: Gino Vergari. The funeral was held Friday, January 22, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey Walsh, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Sam Robbins, Robert Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Adam Loughney, Kevin Loughney and Christopher Vergari. Friends called Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were sent in Mary's name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
