Mary Savage, age 93, a resident of the Forest City Nursing Home, Forest City, PA. and formerly of Canaan Street, Carbondale, PA., died Friday afternoon, November 30, 2012 at the nursing home. She was the wife of the late Chester Savage. Born January 30, 1919 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Frank Calafut and Kathryn Novabilski Calafut Potochak. She was a graduate of the Fell High School, Simpson, PA. and worked along side her husband Chester on their farm in Greenfield Township, PA. for many years. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale and attended church daily before going to the nursing home. She enjoyed bingo, polkas, gardening, cooking and picking up aluminum cans to recycle. She enjoyed cooking holiday meals and her many walks to the Artesian well in Carbondale for water. Her family was very important to her and she was so loving and giving to them. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by one sister: Nellie Payne of Plainfield, NJ.; special great nephew and nieces: Jerome Calafut of Olyphant, PA., Christina Ross and husband Dan of Kingsley, PA., Jennifer Hollister and husband Tracy of Archbald, PA. and Stacey Kucharski and husband Jeff of Scott Township, PA.; great great nephews: Zachary John Ross and Jeffrey John Kucharski; several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Edward, Frank and John Calafut; two sisters: Helen Calafut and Sophie Klosky; special nephew and niece: Jerome Calafut and Joan Klosky. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John O'Bell, associate pastor. Inurnment, Valley View Memorial Park, Montdale, PA. Friends called Thursday, December 6, 2012 from 10:00 - 10:30 AM at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to the Edward A.
