Mary R. O'Malley of Carbondale, PA., died early Wednesday morning, June 22, 2011 at St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home, Elmhurst Township, PA.
Born in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Anna (Smith) O'Malley.
She was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. After graduation, she remained a resident of Carbondale and maintained the family homestead and rental properties. In the 1950's, she moved to Connecticut where she worked for 25 years at the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Upon retirement, she returned to Carbondale. She was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.
She is survived by close friends: Shirley McMyne and Jane Healey, both of Carbondale, PA.; one cousin residing in Savage, MN.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: John and Charles O'Malley.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA., celebrated by Msgr. David Tressler, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Friends called Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the church.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
Pallbearers: Bob Vandenbosch, Karl Rucker, Joseph Healey, Jim McMyne and Jack Willis.
