Mary Catherine McDermott, a lifelong resident of Carbondale Township, PA, died Saturday evening, February 15, 2014 at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carbondale, PA. Born in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late William T., Sr. and Margaret W. (Neary) McDermott. Mary Catherine was a graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale and worked as a secretary for over 40 years at St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing and Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale, before retirement. She enjoyed working the baked goods stand at the church picnics and was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Carbondale. She is survived by one brother: William T. McDermott, Jr. of Carbondale Township, PA; one sister: Ann Milo and husband James of Carbondale Township, PA; nieces and nephews: Mary Rosler, William T. McDermott, III., Mary Ann Milo, Lisa Miller and James Milo, Jr.; great nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 9:15 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 4-7 PM. Pallbearers: William McDermott, III., Ricky McDermott, Joseph Larkin, James Milo and John Hart. Memorial donations were sent in Mary Catherine's name to St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA 18407.
