Obituary

Mary Jankauskas, age 93, of Carbondale, PA., died early Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013 at the Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, PA. Mary was born October 12th, 1919 in Carbondale to Antonio and Josephine Grecco Pantano, who immigrated to the United States from Canicatti, Sicily. She was married to Edward Chick Jankauskas on New Year's Eve 1941 and resided in Carbondale her whole life, where they raised their two sons Edward and Joseph. She worked for many years in the garment industry and was an excellent seamstress. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, whose family meant everything to her. She was an exceptional cook and enjoyed making traditional Italian meals and pastries for her family. Mary always cared for others and shared her kind and loving spirit with everyone she met. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carbondale, she prayed the rosary daily and was devoted to the Blessed Mother. Mary is survived by her sisters, Rose Pettinato and Josephine Scalzo, both of Carbondale, PA.; brother, Angelo Pantano and wife Ceil of Jessup, PA.; son, Edward Jankauskas and wife Marilyn of Newton Lake, PA.; son, Joseph Jakauskas of Dacula, GA.; grandson, Edward Jankauskas of Jessup, PA.; grandson, Christopher Jankauskas and wife Monica of Greenfield Township, PA.; grandson, Justin Jankauskas and wife Jennifer of Hoschton, GA.; great granddaughters, Katie and Carley Jankauskas; nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jankauskas; daughter, Joann; two brothers Lawrence and Joseph Pantano; sister, Grace Pagliaro and daughter-in-law, Judith Molinaro Jankauskas. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Enrico Serine; the staff of the Carbondale Nursing Home, especially Joan, Brenda and Heather for all the years of excellent care they gave Mary; and the staff at Hospice Comminity Care of Dunmore for their kindness and support in her final days. The funeral was held Monday, April 1, 2013 at 11:30 AM from the Carmine J Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Monsignor David L. Tressler, pastor and Deacon Carmine Mendicino. Interment, St. Anthony's Cemetery, Forest City, PA. Friends called Sunday, March 31, 2013 from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were made to the donor's favorite charity. Pallbearers: Edward Jankauskas, Christopher Jankauskas, Justin Jankauskas, Gary Crown, Kenny Crown and Steve Gilia.
