Mary Getzie, 78, of Carbondale, PA, died Friday, July 3, 2020 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Von Getzie, Sr. on July 18, 2019. Born September 2, 1941 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Veronica Fluellen Bowell. Mary was a 1959 graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and retired from the local garment industry. She enjoyed spending time with her circle of close friends and was extremely proud of her three grandsons and all their accomplishments. She is survived by a son: Peter, Jr. and wife, Rahat of Hershey, PA; three grandsons: Wolfgang, Tariq and Vladimir; a sister: Helen Swan of Elk Lake, PA; a brother: Robert Bowell of New Jersey; several beloved nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister: Lyda Ehler; two brothers: William and Stanley Bowell. A graveside services will be held at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA, at a later time to be determined. Arrangements are under the care of Carmine J. & Louis C.
