Mary L. Gazella, age 88, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA., passed away Saturday evening, September 22, 2012 at home. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Roscoe Gazella, Sr. who died April 17, 2010. Born December 29, 1923 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Frances (Tagliaterra) Aileo. She was a 1943 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and attended the Vocation Tech School, Mayfield, PA., where she took nursing classes. She worked as a Navy Inspector for Gentex Corporation, Simpson, PA. and retired as a Practical Nurse from the Carbondale General Hospital after twenty years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank Lisa Molinaro of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Joan Cerra of Dr. Haley's office for their wonderful care to Mary. She is survived by three sons: Joseph Gazella, Jr. of Carbondale, PA., Frank Gazella, Sr. and wife Denise of Virginia Beach, VA. and Victor Gazella and wife Mary of Whites Crossing, PA.; one brother: Frank Aileo of Philadelphia, PA.; five grandchildren: Lori, Frank, Jr., Leiann, Heather and Victor Gazella, Jr.; one great grandson: Collin Michael Gazella; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Ann Marie Hivish; two brothers: Samuel and James Aileo; four sisters: Ann Marie and Rose Marie Aileo, Teresa Croley and Louise Sutor. The funeral was held Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 9:00 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Victor Gazella, Jr., Frank Gazella, Jr., Collin Gazella, Jerry Pedley, Fred, John, Michael and Frank Aileo. Family and friends called Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were sent to St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA 18407 and the Greater Carbondale YMCA, 82 North Main Street, Carbondale, PA 18407.
