Mary Essif, 87, formerly of Carbondale, PA. and a resident of the Conestoga View Nursing Home in Lancaster, PA. for the past two years died early Thursday morning, August 14, 2008 at the nursing home. Born May 4, 1921 in Scranton, PA., she was the last surviving child of the late Elik and Anna (Davis) Essif. She resided most of her life in Carbondale and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. She had been formerly employed in the local garment industry for many years. She is survived by one sister-in-law: Dorothy Essif of Port St. Lucie, FL.; five nephews: Jay Essif and wife Kathy of Lancaster, PA., Les Essif and wife Debbie of Knoxville, TN., Jared Essif and wife Karen of Tucson, AZ., Elik Essif and wife Karen of Tucson, AZ. and Mason Essif of Silver Spring, MD. She was preceded in death by two brothers: George and Thomas Essif; one sister: Abby Essif. The funeral was held Monday, August 18, 2008 at 9:30 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Russell Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Monday, August 18, 2008 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the funeral home.
