Obituary

Mary V. Colosimo, 83, of Carbondale, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA.

Born September 28, 1939 in Eynon, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Ida Yesalavage Kosik.

Mary was a 1957 graduate of Archbald High School and attended Lackawanna College where she completed the secretarial program. She worked for USF&G Insurance in Scranton, as well as, the office of Dr. Thomas Craparo in Carbondale, for many years. Prior to her retirement, Mary was employed in the cafeteria at the Carbondale Area High School where she was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Mary was a devout Roman Catholic that attended Mass regularly and prayed the rosary. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, and in recent years she watched the daily mass on television from St. Peter's Cathedral, Scranton. Mary was an expert homemaker and excellent cook. She loved family gatherings and holidays, and her Polish/Slovak Easter breakfast and Christmas Eve dinner were especially important to her. Mary was a terrific baker and everyone loved her nut rolls, prune rolls and cookies.

Mary was a home body and was always concerned for her son and husband. She was instrumental in her son, Eugene's academic and career success. Mary loved spending time with her family, friends, husband, and son. She dined out regularly, enjoyed summer trips to the New Jersey shore, frequenting the casino's and loved watching the Pennsylvania Polka. Mary was a charitable, kind and sweet person that will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Craparo, Joan Cerra, Dr. Matthew Haley, Lori Hayes, Dr. Julio Ramos, and all the doctors and nurses that assisted Mary at Geisinger-CMC Hospital.

She is survived by the two loves of her life: her husband of 60 years, Eugene "Pancho" Colosimo of Carbondale, PA, and her son: Eugene Colosimo of Jim Thorpe and Carbondale, PA; three sisters: Pauline Lasewicz of Linwood, NJ, Joan Novitsky of Binghamton, NY and Bernadine Polovitch and husband, Joseph of Nicholson, PA; two brothers: Matthew Kosik of Las Vegas, NV and Thomas Kosik of Surpise, AZ; several brother's-in-law and sister's-in-laws which include: William Kostick of Nicholson, PA, John and Louise Gigliotti of Las Vegas, NV, Christine Goodnow of Syracuse, NY, Ann Marie and Millie Gigliotti both of Carbondale, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister: Theresa Kostick; and several sister's-in-law, brother's-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Joseph Mosley, senior priest. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Pallbearers: Mark Lasewicz, William Kostick, Jr., Jason Polovitch, Ernest Colosimo, Joseph Cerra and Lucas Pollitts, Jr.

Viewing hours were held Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 3-6 p.m.
