Mary Louise Clark, 94, a resident of the Forest City Nursing Home, Forest City, PA. and formerly of Clifford, PA., died Friday, October 21, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. Clark who died in 1978.
Born and raised in Union Dale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Irena Price Foster.
After graduating from Herrick Center High School, Louise moved to Endicott, NY to live with her sister Gwendolyn Barnum and worked at a nearby hospital. While her husband was serving with the armed forces in Europe during World War II, Louise moved with her two older children to Detroit, MI. They made their home with Louise's in-laws and she worked as one of the famous "Rosie the Riveters."
At the age of 65 Louise retired from the Endicott Johnson Corporation and embarked on a new career. In addition to helping her youngest daughter and her husband raise their children she became a master quilter. Not only did she make quilts using traditional patterns, Louise also designed one of a kind quilts such as the Indian Girl Quilt she made for her oldest, most beloved granddaughter, Stacy Troup. This same quilt won a prize at the Harford Fair that year.
She was very proud of receiving her driver's license at age 50 and after that Louise was always ready to go on a trip. She traveled to many areas of the United States with friends and relatives including Maine, Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, Maryland and Colorado. Louise loved to bake and was famous for her cookies and rolls. The bread and butter pickles she canned every year were a favorite gift to be received by everyone.
Louise was a member of the Union Dale Presbyterian Church and the Phoenix Club. She served on the election board in Union Dale for many years.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Forest City Nursing Home for the wonderful care Louise received during the past year.
