Obituary

Mary A. Cerra, 96, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, and formerly of Villa Street, died Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at her apartment. She was the wife of the late Bernard J. Cerra, who died April 12, 2003. Born December 7, 1923 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Stecko Brady. Mary was the first and only sibling in her family to graduate from Mayfield High School. She worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry for Mussari's Dress Factory and Starlet Children's Dress Factory, both of Carbondale. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, and was a proud member of the West Side Ladies Playground Group. She enjoyed cooking, Christmas Eve dinners, summers with her family at Cottrell Lake and bingo. Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter: Nancy Cerra Staffaroni of Harrisburg, PA; a daughter-in-law: Diane Cerra Gross and husband, Ernie of SC; five grandchildren: David Cerra and wife, Christina, Erin Cerra Miller and husband, Rob, Christopher Cerra, Matthew Staffaroni and wife, Emily, Jill Staffaroni Muretic and husband, Bryan; great grandchildren: Hannah, Molly, Lyndsey, Holden, Jack, Grace, Bryce, Brady and Stella; a sister: Stella Brady of Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son: Bernard D. Cerra; grandson: Daniel Staffaroni; son-in-law: Jack Staffaroni and three brothers: Francis, Joseph and Eugene Brady. The funeral was held Monday, August 10, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey J. Walsh, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: David and Christopher Cerra, Matthew and Jack Staffaroni, Bryan, Bryce and Brady Muretic. Friends called Sunday, August 9, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations were sent to the St. Rose Restoration Tower Project, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA 18407.
