Mary Frances Howard Baker, 91, formerly of Carbondale, PA., passed away Wednesday morning, September 28, 2011 at the Abington Manor, Clarks Summit, PA., where she had been a resident. Her husband, James Hank Baker, preceded her in death in 1997.
Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Ann (Snee) Howard.
She was a 1938 graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale, PA. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, Carbondale, PA. She was a homemaker and spent the majority of her life being a grandmother, at which she excelled.
Her family would like to thank the caring staff of Abington Manor for making a home for mom for the last few years, and especially the Activities Department, for giving her a fulfilling social life.
She is survived by two sons: James T. Baker of Clarks Summit, PA. and Robert M. Baker of Clifford, PA; three daughters: Sharon Wade of Carbondale, PA., Kathleen L. Baker of Williamstown NJ. and Patricia Pelton of Clifford, PA; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas A. Howard and former Carbondale Mayor Frank L. Howard; one sister: Lucille Zorn; one grandson: David R. Pelton, Jr. in 2001.
The funeral was held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10:00 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, associate pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Friends called Friday, September 30, 2011 from 5 to 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations were made to the Activities Department at Abington Manor, 100 Edella Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18441.
