Mary Jo Artone, 42, of Greenfield Township, PA., died Wednesday afternoon, August 5, 2009 at Mercy Hospice, Scranton, PA., after a lengthy illness. Born April 3, 1967 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of Samuel C. artone Sr., of Greenfield Township and the late Rose Mary (Ward) Artone who died in 1987.She was a 1985 graduate of the Carbondale Area High School and prior to her illness she had been employed for 17 years as a department manager at Wal Mart in Dickson City, PA. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.She enjoyed going to the casino's but her greatest joy in life was her son Joseph.She is survived by one son: Joseph Lapiers, at home; one brother: Samuel Artone, Jr. and wife Cindy of Carbondale, PA.; three nieces: Alexandra, Maresa and Samantha Artone; four uncles: Joseph Artone of Richmondale, PA., Carmine Artone and wife Carol of Front Royal, VA., Anthony Artone and James Artone both of Greenfield Township, PA.She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Carlo and Josephine (Cerra) Artone; her maternal grandparents: James and Mary (Connor) Ward.The funeral was held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township. Pallbearers: Ronald Pascoe, Gordy Postlethwaite, James, Joseph, Kevin and Michael Artone. Friends called Friday, August 7, 2009 from 4-8 PM.
