Martin J. Parise, 80, of Clifford Township, PA, died Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at home. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lorraine Parise.

Born October 23, 1943 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Henrietta Barrett Parise. Marty was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, a received his bachelor's degree in education from Mansfield University and his master's degree from the University of Scranton. He was a math teacher for the Carbondale Area School District and a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and National Education Association. Following his retirement from Carbondale Area, he taught at Marywood University and Bishop O'Hara High School in Dunmore, PA.

Marty was a very talented craftsman who self-constructed both homes he owned. He was an avid outdoorsman and co-owner the Panther Mountain Lodge in Wayne County where he enjoyed many years of hunting with his longtime friends. His true passion in life was spending time on the golf course and horseback riding with his children. Marty was extremely proud of his three children and all their accomplishments. He always looked forward to spending time with his son Martin Jr. who helped plant his vegetable garden each year and completing projects around the house. His unwavering love and support were the cornerstones of their lives, and he took immense pride in their every achievement.

He is also survived by his three children: Christine Parise of Harrisburg, PA, Beth Ann Berwanger and husband, Casey of Waymart, PA, and Martin Parise, Jr. of Exeter, PA; two step-sons: Jonathan Kay and wife, Karen of Boyers, PA, and Jeffrey Kay and wife, Danielle of Hockessin, DE; two brothers: Michael Parise and wife, Mary Frances of South Plainfield, NJ and Thomas Parise and wife, Kathy of Lebanon, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Kevin Parise.

The funeral was held Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with Rev. James Schmidt, pastor of the Berean Baptist Fellowship, officiating. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Honorary Pallbearers: Lawrence Chesnick, Joseph Thornton and Michael Shovlin.

Pallbearers: Martin Parise, Thomas Parise, Jr., Michael Parise, Jr., Joseph Parise, Jonathan Kay and Logan Schmidt.

Viewing hours were held Monday, July 8, 2024 from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requested memorial contributions to The Epilepsy Foundation in honor of Marty's son, Martin, Jr. who is afflicted by epilepsy.
