Mark Allen Smith, 55, of Simpson, PA, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 28, 2020 at home of natural causes. Born February 18, 1965 in Washington, DC, he is the son of Carol Gibbs Bennett and Sandy J. Smith. As a child and young adult, Mark enjoyed many activities from skateboarding to riding dirt bikes especially with his best friends, Charlie, Bob and Jim. From a young age he learned the importance of a hard work ethic by having a newspaper route where he had a compassion for helping people especially his elderly customers. In high school, he was enrolled in the gifted program and developed a passion for computers. He was self-taught and even showed his teachers new applications that were not part of the curriculum. Mark was a 1983 graduate of Carbondale Area High School and during his senior year he entered the U.S. Navy under the delayed entry program and later enjoyed 10 years of service. After discharge from the Navy, he became a delivery person and later manager of a Domino's Pizza in Philadelphia. Upon his return home, he had been employed as a technician for the Cinram Corp. in Olyphant, for 15 years until their closure. He later attended Luzerne College and furthered his knowledge for fixing and building computers. Mark always lived with pets but was a true cat lover. In addition to his parents, he is also survived by a daughter: Jackelyn Smith, her children, Tristan and Chase and her mother and Mark's former wife, Robyn Tregaskis Smith; and a son: Justin, whom Mark had with his second wife. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Howard and Libbie (Rozdilski) Gibbs; paternal grandparents: Sandy and Marjorie Smith; his step-father: Clyde Bennett.
