Mark A. Robinson, 65, of Waymart, PA, died surrounded by his family Wednesday evening, October 15, 2014 at Hospice of The Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA, following a short battle with cancer. His wife is the former Celia "Gail" Browning. They were married February 12, 2000. Born May 2, 1949 in Fort Dix, NJ, he is the son of Eleanor (Dombrowski) Grutkowski of Carbondale, PA and the late Donald Robinson.
Mark was a graduate of Waymart High School and attended community college for two years. He worked as a truck driver and self employed contractor for many years. He was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the 3rd Marine Division, 3rd FSR Transport Equipment Riot Squad and his job was to refuel C52 fighter jets and was in charge of motor transport supplies. He was also a combat driver for a four star general. Mark loved animals, his hemlock trees and enjoyed spending time with his pet poodle Angel. His greatest joy in life was spending his life with his wife Gail and the many wonderful years they have had together.
He is survived by one son: Mark Robinson and wife Cheryl of Flowery Branch, GA; one step son: Chris Kellogg and wife Lisa Renae of Richmond , VA; four grandchildren: Adam, Daniel, Andrew and Crystal; seven great grandchildren; three sisters: Donna Matusek of Carbondale, PA, Barbara Granville of Carbondale, PA and Rosemarie Syrylo of Waymart, PA;two brothers: Michael Robinson of Forest City, PA and Gary Robinson of South Canaan, PA; one half sister: Winona Long of Virginia; several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by two sisters: Cynthia Briggs and Karen Kennedy. A blessing service was held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with Deacon Edward Casey of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, officiating. Inurnment, Simon Cemetery, South Canaan Twp., PA.
Military honors were provided by the Marine Corps Honor Guard and the Simpson VFW Post 4712 Honor Guard. Friends called Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 9:00-10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations were sent to the family to help with funeral costs.
