Marion Besten Nobilski, 96, of Carbondale, PA, died Saturday morning, September 30, 2023 at home under the care of hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Nobilski on October 14, 1970.
Born May 17, 1927 in Carbondale, PA, she was the last surviving child of the late John and Mary Batok Besten, and was a 1945 graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, Marion was a retired supervisor at Daystrom in Archbald, PA, after 36 years of service.
Marion was a devout Catholic who was very active in her former parish, Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Mayfield, PA. She was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, PA, where she was a devoted attendee of the parish's daily holy hour at the former St. Rose Chapel. She was a person who believed in the power of prayer and hosted a monthly rosary group at her home. She was a former volunteer at Allied Services and was a member of the Small Town Red Hatters, Carbondale, PA. As an animal lover she had a fondness for cats, and cared and nurtured many neighborhood strays. Marion enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden and grew the biggest tomatoes. She excelled in canning red beets and was a sports addict, especially for Duke Basketball.
Marion was blessed to have lived in the same house her entire life. Through the generosity of neighbors and relatives her wish to stay in her home until her passing was fulfilled.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Anthony and John Besten; one sister: Alice Slabinski; her companion: Jerome Barbour, Sr.; and her two closest friends: Delores and Veronica.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnock, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Viewing was held Friday, October 6, 2023 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the church.
Pallbearers: Richard Smith, Leo Laourdakis, Noah Bryant and George Bryant.
