Mary "Marie" Thomas, 90, of Simpson, PA, died Sunday evening, May 27, 2018 at the home of her son, Mark, after an extended illness. She was the wife of Lawrence A. Thomas, who died on July 22, 1992. Born August 25, 1927 in Carbondale, PA, she was the last surviving child of the late Bruno and Fernata Molinaro Vadala. Marie was retired from the local garment industry where she had been employed as a sewing machine operator at P&A Dress Factory, Carbondale, for many years. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. Marie was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt who will be deeply missed. She cherished the time spent with all of her grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Mary Ellen Shawl for their kind and compassionate care to both Marie and her entire family. She is survived by three sons: Larry Thomas and companion, Kathy White of Carbondale, PA, David Thomas and wife, Cheryl of Scott Township, PA and Mark Thomas and wife, Leanne of Pittston, PA; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother: Patrick Vadala; four sisters: Rosella Piorkowski, Margaret Rienzo, Caroline Caiello and Frances Woody. The funeral was held Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, concelebrated by Rev. James Price, C.P., pastor and Deacon Edward Casey. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Dylan Thomas, Jerry Woody, Bruno Vadala and Brandon Budda.
