Marguerite Anne Jones Takach, 91, a devoted mother, grandmother, educator, entrepreneur, and cherished member of her community, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born on November 18, 1934, to Hezekiah K. Jones and Elizabeth Lentes Jones, Marguerite grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Scranton Central HS and earned a BA in Education from West Chester University. Her passion for education led her to a teaching career at Waverly School in the Abington School District in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, where she helped shape young students' lives.

On February 4, 1961, Marguerite married the love of her life, Andrew Bernard Takach. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, entrepreneurship, and community. Alongside her husband she owned and managed Takach’s Greenfield Acres, a beloved picnic grove and recreation area outside Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

Marguerite was a woman of remarkable energy, generosity, and dedication to others. Her commitment to service was reflected in her many community and charitable activities. She was a member of The Century Club, the Greenfield Historical Society, the Scranton Historical Society, and a founding member of the Greenfield Township Women’s Fire Auxiliary.

Her volunteer work extended to St. Francis Kitchen, St. Joseph’s Mother and Infant Program, the American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery Program, and Hunterdon Hospital in New Jersey.

Faith was an important part of Marguerite’s life. She was a member of Christ the King Parish in Archbald and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

Marguerite’s greatest joy and most meaningful purpose in life was her family. She was a beacon of light for her children and grandchildren, illuminating their paths with unconditional love, wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering support. Through every chapter of their lives, she was their guiding light, celebrating their joys, comforting them through challenges, and helping each of them discover the strength and courage to fulfill their own purpose. She believed deeply in the people she loved and gave selflessly of herself so that they could grow, flourish, and become all they were meant to be. Her greatest legacy is not only the life she lived, but the love she instilled in her family and the light that will continue to shine through each of them for generations to come.

In her later years, Marguerite was a beloved resident of Glenmaura Senior Living in Moosic, Pennsylvania.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andrew Bernard Takach, who passed away on July 11, 1998; her parents, Hezekiah K. and Elizabeth Lentes Jones; her sister, Dolores Jones, and her husband, Ralph Jones; her brother, Harold K. Jones; and her sister, Carolyn Waite.

She is survived by her four children: Andrew J. Takach; Anne Curtis and her husband, John Curtis; Sara Gibbons-Altrichter and her husband, Mike Altrichter; and Steven Takach and his wife, Beth Takach.

She is also survived by her ten beloved grandchildren: John F. Curtis IV, Christopher Curtis, Brooke Jennings, Brinton Gibbons, Rose Gibbons, Marie Takach, Andrew Takach, Margaret (Greta) Takach, Eva Takach, and Anton Takach.

She is additionally survived by her sister-in-law, Carol H. Jones; Thomas Gillery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026 from 3-7 p.m. at The Springs at Takach’s Grove, 256 Sandy Banks Road, Greenfield Township, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor on Monday, October 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, immediately followed by an Interment at Sandy Banks Cemetery, Greenfield, Township, PA, and a Repast back at The Springs at Takach’s Grove.

Those attending the Mass are asked to arrive at the church by 9:45 am.
