Marguerite Connolly of Carbondale, PA, was called home to God Saturday morning, September 17, 2016 at her home surrounded by family. She was the wife of Walter F. "Gus" Connolly who died April 7, 2010. Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late John and Marguerite Martin Mackrell, who died after giving birth. She was raised by her aunt, the late Mary L. Martin, who became a mother to her and a beloved grandmother to her eight children. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School and St. Joseph's School of Nursing, both of Carbondale. Marguerite was a registered nurse and began her career at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in New York City. She later returned home to marry and raise her eight children, while at the same time caring for her elderly family members. After raising her family, she went back to work at the Carbondale Nursing Home and later retired from the Carbondale General Hospital. She was a devoted lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Nursing was Marguerite's vocation and passion along with raising her family where values, faith and healing went hand in hand. She held the Blessed Mother dear to her heart asking for guidance and direction in all that she did and accomplished. With heartfelt gratitude the family would like to thank Father Marek, Sister Denise, and her dear friend, Jean Willis for their love and faithfulness. They would extend their gratitude to the Home Health Care Professionals, Betty Ann McDonald, and Brian Masters for the excellent, compassionate care of their mother. She is survived by seven children: Martin Connolly and wife Karen of Omaha, NE, Ann and husband Bruce Brownell of Catasauqua, PA, Susan and husband Doug Payton of Oneonta, NY, Carole and husband Jeff Orr of Clarks Summit, PA, Joanie and husband Joseph Martines of Carbondale, PA, Mimi and husband Bob "Chopper" Gray of Simpson, PA and Shawn Connolly and wife Nellie of Carbondale, PA; 15 grandchildren: Jimmy, Trisha, Joseph, Ryan, Erin, Matthew, Benjamin, Conor, Emily, Christopher, Brian, Bridget, Shawn, Aniela and Eliana; 6 great grandchildren: Brennan, McKenzie, Callen, Izzy, Riley and Lucas; four sisters: Ann and Clarita McAndrew both of Staten Island, NY, Margaret Flynn of Easton, PA and Mary Bernice Toolan of Carbondale, PA; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son: Jimmy Connolly; three brothers: Frank, Thomas and James McAndrew. The funeral was held Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Marek Wasilewski, Rev. John Lapera and Deacon Edward Casey. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers were her grandsons: Joseph Connolly, Ryan Brownell, Conor Orr, Christopher Martines, Brian Martines and Shawn E. Connolly.
