Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Farrell, of Carbondale, PA, died peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Carbondale Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness. Born in Carbondale in 1921, she was the daughter of the late Clement and Isabel Carden Farrell. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School. Peggy maintained perfect attendance throughout elementary and high school, and applied that same steadiness and work ethic during her lengthy employment at Daystrom Corporation, Eynon. The main setting of Peggy's life was the family homestead on the West Side, Carbondale, where she was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and a beloved and supportive neighbor. With her close friend, the late Sarah Gillott, she was a devotee of the annual St. Ann's Novena at the Basilica in Scranton. Significantly, she died in the midst of the current Novena, on its fifth day. She is survived by three brothers: Joseph, Waymart, PA; Thomas, Carbondale, PA; and Leo, New Jersey; nephews: Joseph Farrell, Forest City, PA; Atty. Christopher Farrell and Michael Farrell, Waymart, PA; Thomas Farrell, Jr., Warrington, PA; Robert, Michael and Leo Farrell, New Jersey; James Farrell, Jr., New Mexico; nieces: Atty. Hope Farrell, Mary Claire Farrell, Atty. Kathy Farrell Grochala, Eileen Leddy, Nancy Furstenberg, Susan Soliwoda, Mary Pawar, Millie Gleser, Peggy Farrell, New Jersey; Alice Marie Sponsler, South Carolina; Isabel Garnett and Mary Beth Farrell, Delaware; Colleen Gurgui, Arizona; Maureen Salitsky, Carbondale, PA; numerous cousins, great nephews and great nieces. She was also preceded in death by three brothers: John, James and Robert; two nephews: John Farrell, Jr., and Edward Farrell. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by the Rev. James Price C.P., pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. There were no public calling hours. Arrangements by Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale.
