Obituary

Madolyn (Lyn) Spedding Fischbeck, age 76, of Penney Farms, Florida, died late Friday evening, June 4, 2004 after a short illness. She was the wife of Robert M. Fischbeck for over 55 years. Born July 21, 1927 in Clifford, PA. She was the daughter of the late John W. Spedding and Madolyn Scutt Spedding Atkins and the step-daughter of the late Ernest A. Atkins. She was a seventh generation Clifford resident. She was a former member of the Clifford Baptist Church. She was a 1945 salutatorian graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. She also graduated from Syracuse University where she earned a bachelor of science degree in microbiology. She was the past president of the American Field Service Exchange Student Program in Sherrill, New York where she also was a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She served on the Board of Directors for both the Mid State Library and the Literacy Volunteers of Upstate New York. She also did volunteer work in Florida for the Points of Light. She enjoyed painting, playing the piano, sewing, cooking and crossword puzzles in the New York Times. She was an avid bridge player and a self proclaimed computer nerd. Her greatest passion was taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by one son: Captain Jeffrey A. Fischbeck, US Navy of San Diego, CA.; four daughters: Sally Fischbeck, Mathematics Teacher of Clifford, PA., Nancy Lynn Fischbeck Feinstein PhD, RN of Hammondsport, NY., Dr. Susan Fischbeck, Pediatrician of Springville, NY. and Carol D. Fischbeck, Technical Trainer of Cincinnati, OH.; one sister: Mary S. Dalton of Islip, NY.; one brother: Frank S. Spedding of Langhorne, PA.; six grandchildren: Jamie, Leslie, Stephanie, Bryan, Connor and Gavin; Many Nieces Nephews A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted under the care of Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford.
