Obituary

Madelyn Elizabeth Pettinato, 80, of Carbondale, PA., died Wednesday evening, January 27, 2010 at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA., surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Patrick H. Pettinato. Born July 19, 1929 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late John and Kathryn Scoblick (Scopeletti) Pollitts (Pollizzi). She was a lifetime member of the Carbondale community and was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale. She began her career working at the Manville Corporation in New Jersey and then as a beautician with her late brother-in-law Joseph Russo at the La Belle Beauty Salon in Carbondale which was founded by her mother. She eventually became a licensed practical nurse and a respiratory therapist at the former St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale. She was a member and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carbondale and was an adherent reciter of the Rosary all her life. Her home and gardens meant so much to her, working tirelessly to make them outstanding. Her passions were swimming, dancing and traveling. She traveled to Medjugorje several times and loved Hilton Head, South Carolina. She always strived for excellence in everything she did and expected the most from her children and grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care given to Madelyn by both the CMC Intensive Care Unit and the VNA Hospice Unit staffs. She is survived by two sons: Mark Pettinato and wife Pauline of Damascus, MD. and Glenn Pettinato and wife Terri of Clarks Summit, PA.; one daughter: Patrice Pettinato of Germantown, MD.; one sister: Antoinette Leotti of Manville, NJ.; five grandchildren: Alyssa, Anthony, Maria, Michael and Matthew; an uncle: Armand Scoblick of Sayre, PA.; two sister-in-laws: Rosemary and Connie Pettinato both of Carbondale, PA; 11 nieces and nephews; numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her younger sister: Ann Russo; an infant brother: Anthony; two brother-in-laws: Carmino and Peter David Pettinato. The funeral was held Monday, February 1, 2010 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremations Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Anthony Pettinato, David Pettinato, Carmen Pettinato, Dr. Peter Pettinato, John Tolerico and Damian Russo. Friends called Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 2-4 7-9 PM.
