Obituary

Lucille Harrison Bedene, 95, of Ray City, GA, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Bedene, a native of Forest City, PA.

Born in Peckville on December 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late George and Nettie Smith Harrison. Growing up in Carbondale, PA, Lucille graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1948. After high school, she attended nursing school at St Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, graduating in 1952. She worked at St. Joseph's as a nurse until 1958 when she married her husband on October 25, 1958. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Michigan where Paul was based in the U.S. Air Force. In 1968, the Bedene's were moved to Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA and they stayed in Valdosta when Paul retired in 1972. Lucille took her nursing skills to Owens Illinois Paper Mill where she worked for 30 years, until her retirement in 2011. She was also a devoted homemaker, who loved spending time with and caring for her family.

She is survived by two daughters: Patricia Hendrickson and husband, Barry of St. Louis, MO, Barbara Bedene Fields and husband, Randy of Temple GA; three sons: Paul Bedene and wife, Kristal of Valdosta, GA, Donald Bedene and wife Carri, of Ray City, GA, and James Bedene of Ray City, GA; a daughter-in-law: Lori Bedene of Valdosta, GA; five grandchildren: Alec and Paul Hendrickson, both of St. Louis, MO, John Bedene, Jr. of Valdosta, GA, Elizabeth Fields of Temple, GA, and Seth Bedene of USS George Washington. Also surviving is her devoted sister: Ethel Harrison of Ray City, GA; and three step-grandchildren, Ashleigh Thomas of Telluride, CO, Michelle McCoy of Ray City, GA, and Francis Wasikowski of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by a son: John Charles Bedene; two brothers: George Harrison, Jr., and Milton Harrison; and two sisters: Elizabeth Carpenter and Evelyn Perri.

The funeral was held Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, officiated by Rev. Bonnie Resseguie. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Forest City, PA. The funeral was live streamed from the funeral home. The family received friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
