Obituary

Lucas C. Pollits, 79, of Carbondale, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, January 20, 2016 at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehab Center, Carbondale. His wife of 57 years is the former Joann Wallace. Born September 22, 1936 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Joseph, Sr. and Mary Brescia Pollits. Lukie was a 1954 graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. From 1955 to 1965 he operated a well known main street restaurant, Luke's Luncheonette. He later became an insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance Company for over 30 years. Lukie served with 109th Infantry Division of Pennsylvania Army National Guard where he received the Marksman Badge. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale where he spent countless hours preparing food for the annual church feast and spaghetti supper. Lukie was the last surviving charter member of the Carbondale Chapter of UNICO and under his leadership as chapter president from 1964-1965 the chapter opened up donations to a wide group of charities and public funds, especially for the youth of the area. He was also a volunteer for Area P Special Olympics and a member of the Victor Alfieri Society in Scranton. Lukie was a great cook who was known for his famous pasta fagiole, tomato salad and chili. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with family and friends. Lukie was a member of the Monday Night Golf League and over the years shot 3 holes-in-one. He especially cherished vacationing with his family. In all aspects of his life it was his family, his church, his friends and "his stuff". He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by three children: LuAnn Pollits-Casey and husband John of Bensalem, PA, Joseph "Jay" Pollits and wife Mary Beth of Greenfield Twp., PA and Lucas Pollits and Dawn of Browndale, PA; a sister: Marie Davitt-McVeigh of Allentown, PA; two brothers: Anthony Pollits of Las Vegas, NV and Joseph Pollits and wife Margaret of Carbondale, PA; four grandchildren: Lindsey Ann Casey, Cassandra Joann Pollits, Emily Maria Pollits and Jason Lucas Pollits; nieces and nephew: Betsy Pollits, Angela Pollits, Marla Davitt-Hinkle and Francis Davitt, Jr.; several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter: Mary Frances. The funeral was held Monday, January 25, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor and Deacon Edward Casey. Entombment, St. Mary the Assumption Cemetery, Montdale, PA. Pallbearers: Lindsey, Emily, Cassandra and Jason Pollits, Eugene Colosimo, Francis Davitt, Jr., Richard Ruggiero and Anthony Morgantini.
