Lijiah J. Simpson, age 25, of North Scranton, PA., died Friday afternoon, June 6, 2014 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA.
Born May 31, 1989 in Bay Shore, NY, he is the son of Wayne Simpson and the late Mary Beth (King) Simpson. He is the step son of Pat Simpson.
He was a 2007 graduate of West Scranton High School and received a certified nurse's aid certificate from the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County. In addition to working as a CNA, he was also a CDL truck driver having worked for Warner Trucking in Allentown, PA and Bolus Trucking in Scranton.
Lijiah was self taught on the guitar and his mother coached him in voice lessons as a child and later he competed in state competitions while in high school. He was a third degree black belt in Goshen Jitsu Karate. He was fondly called JuJu Bee by his mom.
He is survived by one brother: Sam Simpson and wife Ashlinn of the Minooka Section of Scranton, PA; two step brothers: Matthew and Stephen Charles, both at home; one nephew: Illion Simpson; paternal grandfather: Edward James Peeta Simpson of Honesdale, PA; maternal grandmother: Verna Stevens of Indiana, PA; two uncles: Eddie Simpson and wife Barbara of Daytona Beach, FL and Bruce Simpson and wife Julie of Wappingers Falls, NY; several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother: Phyllis Winky Simpson.
A memorial service was held Sunday, June 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM from the family residence, 3111 N. Main Avenue, Scranton, with Rev. Julie Shaffer, officiating.
Cremation arrangements were under the care of the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
