Lewis R. (Jiggs) Balmer, Jr., 68, of Lenox, PA., died Thursday morning, September 20, 2007 at home after an extended illness. Born January 3, 1939 in Susquehanna, PA., he was the son of the late Lewis Balmer, Sr. and Marion Vitiziem Linsley. He was a graduate of the Susquehanna Community School District and served in the Marine Corp for six years. Over the years, he had been employed as a quarryman but mostly as a truck driver having been employed by Onieda, Bolus and Matlock Trucking, as well as Masters Concrete. He also had his own truck and worked independently for several years. In the late 1950s, he drove a stock car 03 at the Penn Can Speedway. He loved farming, hunting, fishing, gardening and his beloved dogs and cats. He never missed a NASCAR race. He enjoyed socializing with is many friends at the Elk Mountain VFW, Post 8488 where he was a member. He was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by four daughters: Becky Balmer of Brooklyn, PA., Beth Williams of Brooklyn, PA., Betsy Diasz of New Milford, PA. and Bonnie Balmer of Hallstead, PA.; one brother: Marty Linsley of Susquehanna, PA.; 10 Grandchildren; and his companion of 23 years: Marion Evans of Lenox, PA. He was preceded in death by three sons: Billy, Bruce and Brian Balmer. A celebration of Jiggs life was held Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the Elk Mountain VFW, Post 8488, Lenox, with the Rev. Ralph Christianson, pastor of the First Universalist Church of Brooklyn, PA., officiating. Interment with military honors followed at the Maplewood Cemetery, Kingsley. Friends called at the VFW from 12:00 PM till service time. Cremation took place at the Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA. Arrangements were by the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Clifford, PA.
