LeRoy C. Cottrell, Sr. age 81, of RR 1 Box 97, Forest City died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale. He is survived by his wife the former Florence Reynolds.
Born February 2, 1920 in Burnwood, PA. He was the son of the late Ernest and Minnie (Smith) Cottrell.
He was a member of Worth Baptist Church, Jermyn. He was a life member of the Clifford Township Fire Company. He volunteered his time at the Clifford Township Fire Company's annual picnic in the candy apple stand.
Prior to retirement, he worked at the General Electric Company in Vestal, NY for 23 years.
He served in the U.S. Army with Company E of the 110th Infantry during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Huntgen Forest.
He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandpa, and will be greatly missed. He had a quick wit and loved his two dogs Snoopy and Cocoa.
He is survived by two daughters: Donna Harding of Wilkes-Barre, PA, and Lori Cook of Olyphant, PA; one son: LeRoy Skip Cottrell, Jr. of Jackson, PA; one brother: Elwin Cottrell of Binghamton, NY; 5 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; 4 Foster Children; 9 Foster Grandchildren; Several Nieces Nephews
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Claude Cottrell and Harold Cottrell; four sisters: Dorothy Cottrell, Lila Hoskins, Bernice Martin, and Beatrice Frye.
The funeral was held Friday, January 11, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in Worth Baptist Church, RD 1, Jermyn with Rev. James Major, Pastor, officiating. Interment, Sand Bank Cemetery, Greenfield Twp.
Viewing was held Thursday, January 10, 2002 from 2-4 7-9 in the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, 102 Dundaff Street, Clifford, PA.
