Obituary

Leon R. Cameron, age 81, of West Lenox, PA., Susquehanna County, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, April 17, 2005 at the Endless Mountains Health Systems, Montrose, PA. He was preceded in death by his first wife Jennie Grace Brundage, mother of his children and his beloved second wife Helen L. Bennett. Born November 12, 1923 in Lenox Township, PA. He was the son of the late Wilson and Harriet (Bennett) Cameron. During World War II, he was a mechanic in the 8th Air Force stationed in England. He was the last surviving charter member of the Elk Mountain VFW Post 8488 in Lenox. A dairy farmer, Leon then became a Volkswagon mechanic. He always enjoyed a lively political discussion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, Elk Mountain VFW Post 8488 or the donors favorite charity. He is survived by his fiance, Pauline Hitchcock of West Lenox, PA.; one daughter: Linda Cameron of West Lenox, PA.; two sons: Edward Cameron of Thompson, PA. and Harold Cameron of West Lenox, PA.; one adopted son: Walter Mercadante of West Lenox, PA.; 5 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; Nieces Nephews He was preceded in death by one brother: Merle Cameron; one sister: Thelma Holly The funeral was held Wednesday evening at 8:00 pm in the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff Main Streets, Clifford, PA. with the Rev. Lee Mead, pastor of the West Lenox Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation followed at Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA. Friends called Wednesday from 2-4 6-8 pm. A celebration of Leons life was also celebrated Saturday, May 7, 2005 at 2:00pm from the Elk Mountain VFW in Lenox.
