Obituary

Kathryn P. Cerra, 94, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Carbondale Nursing Center, Carbondale. She was the wife of the late Joseph M. Cerra, who died October 22, 1992. Born March 29, 1923 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Julia Neutts Medico. Kay was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and after graduation worked in the local garment industry. She worked for many years before her retirement at Daystrom, Inc. in Archbald, PA. During World War II, she worked in the defense industry in Newark, NJ. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, and also belonged to many local card clubs. She enjoyed her trips to the casino but most of all spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her kindness, wit and humor. The family would like to thank the staffs of the Carbondale Nursing Home, Home Healthcare and Hospice, Eynon, PA, Dr. Moro and Dr. Haley, caretakers Carol and Shop, nephew, Anthony Cerra and goddaughter, Linda Grande for all of their kindness and care to Kay. She is survived by one daughter: Julia Cerra of Carbondale, PA; one son: Michael Cerra and wife Sherryl of Norwich, NY and Lake Ashton, FL; two grandchildren: Derek Cerra of Norwich, NY, Nicole DiCerbo and husband Christopher of Olean, NY; two great grandchildren: Dominick and Luca DiCerbo; one sister: Irene Oliveri of Covington, LA; one step sister: Mary Oliveri of Carbondale; two sisters-in-law: Teresa Cerra and Colleen Doroshenko, both of NJ; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one sister: Antoinette Prebich. The funeral was held Monday, January 22, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. James Price, C.P., pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Joseph, Michael, Anthony, John and Frank Cerra and Sahabettin Cimbat.
