Katherine Adams Race, 101, of Crystal Lake, PA, died Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the Clarks Summit Senior Living with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Pastor John T. (Jack) Race, who died January 7, 2023. They celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary on July 4, 2022.

Born August 6, 1922 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Louis R. and Gladys M. Dimmock Adams.

Katherine was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School. In later years she attended classes at Keystone College. After high school, she worked in Dr. Niles office in Carbondale. Then at the age of 60 she began training to be an LPN. This after having served as a volunteer in a hospital and in an orphanage in Afghanistan.

Her greatest joy was supporting her husband Jack in ministry work and travels and raising her family in Crystal Lake. Katherine was devoted to her faith and was an organizer of the Day of Joy Gladness Women's Spiritual Retreat in which drew hundreds of women to participate. Katherine also grew many daffodils at her home in which she shared at this event. She enjoyed volunteering at the Carbondale Library, gardening, was a seamstress and took great pride in everything she did.

She is survived by her daughter: Jacqueline DeNike and husband William; her son: John Race; 12 grandchildren: Robin Mizerak (Dave), Rick DeNike (Lisa), Wendy Hartman (Dave), Jill Tomaine (Mark), Chad DeNike (Heather), Stephanie Blumenthal (Dave), Jennifer DeNike (Markus), Teddy DeNike, Kirstie Swanson (Jeff), Josh Race (Jingyi), Emily Race Nemark (Charlie), Jenna Race; 16 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son: David Race; grandson: Dennis DeNike: brother: Robert W. Adams and sister: Betty Jane Russell.

The funeral was held Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale, 76 Salem Avenue, Carbondale, PA, with Rev. Wayne Wolfe, pastor as officiant. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.

Pallbearers: Josh Race, Ricky Denike, Chad Denike, Teddy Denike, Scott Mizerak, Dylan Denike, Zach Denike, Iroh Race, Ari Blumenthal and Parker Robinson.

Viewing was held at the church on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
