Julia Cortese, age 83, of Carbondale, PA., died Friday morning, July 3, 2009 at home after an illness. She was the wife of the late Anthony J. Corky Cortese, Sr., who died October 13, 2005. Born May 17, 1926 in Simpson, PA., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Sopko) Erzin.She was a graduate of the Fell High School in Simpson and worked as a seamstress for many local garment factories. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carbondale and enjoyed cooking and baking. Her greatest joy in life was taking good care of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family. The family would like to thank Julia's caregiver, Evelyn Sheare for her support and love.She is survived by four daughters: Loretta Lesniewski of Uniondale, PA., Judith Daley and husband William of Carbondale, PA., Delores Lasavage and husband John of Carbondale, PA. and Kathleen Cominsky and husband Jeff of Royersford, PA.; one son: Anthony J. Corky Cortese, Jr. and wife Danielle of Bethlehem, PA.; two brothers: Joseph Erzin of New Jersey and Augustine Erzin of Jermyn, PA.; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ann Ball and Helen Rowland; one son-in-law: Francis Lesniewski.The funeral was held Monday, July 6, 2009 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Zachary Lasavage, Joshua Lasavage, James Tierney, A.J. Cortese, William Daley, Brian Daley, Christopher Daley, Frank Lesniewski and Mark Lesniewski -- all grandsons.
