Obituary

Judith “Judy” Muia, 87, of Childs, PA, died Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at home after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Muia on May 24, 2017.

Born May 13, 1939 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Frances Arnese Vadala.

Judy was raised on the West Side of Carbondale and was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. After her marriage, she and her husband were longtime residents of Clifton, New Jersey where they raised their family. After their retirement, they moved back home and resided in Childs. Judy had been employed for 16 years as a decorator for Lin-Gor Wall Coverings in Clifton, NJ, the same company where her husband was plant manager for 35 years. She had also been employed for 10 years by the Lakeland School District.

Judy will be fondly remembered for her infectious smile, greeting everyone with a pat in the cheek, her immaculate kept home, and her love of the casino’s. She and Joe cherished their frequent trips to Atlantic City.

She is survived by three daughters: Renee Muia Cottle of Childs, PA, Kimberly Muia West of Clifton, NJ and Denise Muia Laite and husband, Chris of Green Township, NJ; one son: Patrick Muia of Madison, NJ; six grandchildren: Matthew West, Kelly West, Christopher Laite, Anthony Laite, Ryan Muia and Katie Muia; one great granddaughter: Ella West; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Patrick, Frank and Joseph Vadala; eight sisters: Rosella Vadala, Frances Baffone, Rita Ruddy, Sandra Mosher, Jean Knowles, Dorothy Warren, Marie Wilson and Kay Werwinski; and her son-in-law: Ralph West.

The funeral will be Monday, June 15, 2026 from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Viewing hours will be held Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 2-5 p.m.
