Josephine M. Lopes, 84, of Carbondale, PA., died Monday night, July 17, 2006 at home, after an illness. She was the wife of Joseph H. Lopes, Jr., who died January 21, 1996.
Born August 16, 1921 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Vincenza Gulino Caudullo.
She was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School class of 1940 and the Carbondale Beauty Academy. Prior to her retirement, she was a self employed beautician and a member of the Professional Hairdressers Association and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.
She is survived by one son: Joseph A. Lopes, III. of Jeffersonville, PA.; one daughter: Margaret Bognatz of Forest City, PA.; three grandsons: Edward and wife Joy Bognatz, Jr. of Uniondale, PA., Joseph and wife Penny Bognatz of Forest City, PA. and Jeffrey and wife Kelly Bognatz of Tunkhannock, PA.; six great grandchildren: Edward, III, Courtney, Keegan, Brianna, Steven and Samantha; one sister: Germaine Cerra of Carbondale, PA.; Several Nieces and Nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Grace Gillott and Anna Grizzanti; two infant brothers.
The funeral was held Friday, July 21, 2006 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by the Rev. Russell Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
